Some Important Ways To Boost Your Self-esteem

Building self-esteem is one of the most important things that you can do in your life. Having a high self-esteem gives you a lot of benefits allowing you to achieve your personal goals. This article discusses the ways to boost your self-esteem.

Having confidence and satisfaction in oneself leads a person to live life most fully and satisfyingly.  Not just in some situations, but in almost every aspect of life it enables a person to determine how much he or she can achieve success, while it empowers him or her to be resilient and adaptable even though there are failures or down times. It’s thus important that a person values himself or herself. Self-esteem is the key to success in life. Here are some ways that you might consider for improving your self-esteem.

1- Stop listening to your inner critic
Though it becomes

critical sometimes to differentiate between your critical inner voice and true conscience, that’s where the exact recognition between the two is important. The true conscience is finely attuned to all that is true, whereas your critical inner voice can hold you back from your goals that you want to pursue. Thus, the way you think towards achieving your goals plays a major role in your life allowing you to get in your own way. We all have to deal with our inner critical voice at some time or another. The inner critic or "critical inner voice" is a concept used in popular psychology to refer to a sub personality - universally present in at least some form - that judges and demeans a person. Hence, learning to deal with inner critical voice effectively is important to all areas of life, as it enables you to conquer your negative thoughts, beliefs and attitudes that appose your best interests; on the other hand, it boosts your self-esteem to the extent to which you can value and respect yourself.

2 – Using healthier motivation and adopting good habits
Having a healthy motivation and adopting the right habits is another great way to improve your self-esteem. All is needed to develop the right mind-set to get and stay motivated. It is not so important how long you live, as it is how you live and how you feel and think about yourself while you live. And that’s what has a lot to do with your self-esteem. Indeed, if you have a high opinion about yourself, you self-esteem is high and vice versa. Thus, considering the ingredients of genuine motivation and cultivating good habits develops your sense of deserving good things, it motivates you to groom yourself and dress and look nice. Remember that those who are self-motivated tend to be more organized and are good at time management skills that in turn leads them to have more self-esteem and confidence.

3 – Appreciating and loving yourself
Have you ever considered how important is it to appreciate yourself and honor your soul? More importantly, how well do you love yourself?  It is extremely valuable to show yourself love and appreciation. Loving yourself is as important as you do for others. As opposed to doing what has been mentioned, that is, not loving and appreciating yourself can lead to self-negligence and poor self-care. Appreciating and loving yourself for all good things you have done for you not only boosts your self-esteem, but also prevents you from self-neglect resulting in increasing your self-esteem to a greater level. Here is the saying for

loving self:  "You can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and that person is not to be found anywhere. You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserve your love and affection."  

4 – Replacing the perfectionism and learning from mistakes
No one is perfect in this world and everyone has his or her own virtues and imperfections. You need to overcome perfectionism replacing with realism and learning to embrace your mistakes, if you want to heighten your self-esteem. This requires you to change your perspective. If you start learning to accept your mistakes or shortcomings or unwanted events of life, you are enabled to learn from mistakes and change yourself for the better. It must be noted that refusal to accept any standard short of perfection is harmful in many ways. It can be a cause of weakness, while it causes obstacles and procrastination to occur. In the worst ways, it leads you to develop depression, anxiety and stress including other emotional and behavioral disorders. 

5 – Being kind towards other people
Be kinder and gentler and more compassionate towards others that you can develop your self-esteem. If you treat others with respects, they will in turn do the same for you. One should be careful that he or she does not discriminate others on the basis of social status or richness. Instead, every person should be valued, because he or she has his or her own value as a human being. You should value others if you want others to see you as valuable person.

Self-esteem is strengthened by increased self-confidence. And a good thing about self-confidence is that it can be learnt and developed just like any other skill can. Though we all experience problems with self-esteem at some point of time in our lives, but working on our self-confidence and self-esteem should not be ignored. Thus, building a high self-esteem and strong confidence is a great way to improve your emotional resilience, to experience positive feelings of self-efficacy and to have great success in life.
